DIY No-Sew Diaper Changing Pad Cover

We have been spending a lot of money on pretty things for the baby. So I tried making my own DIY changing pad cover with fabric from Ikea and guess what... it worked! And everyone compliments it when they come over. Plus, I don't know how to sew... not even a button... so this is super easy.

 

Step 1:

Cut your fabric in a 80x120 cm rectangle. Then cut about 15x15 cm boxes of  each corner.

Step 2:
Bind the ends of the square together using the strips you iron on and glue fabric together with.
Place on edge...

Fold over...

(This is what I used)

Iron back and forth and voilá...

Repeat with all corners...

 

Step 3:

Bind all four sides down. Fold over a side and place the fabric tape along the edge, then iron back and forth again. Make sure to leave enough space to run elastic through next.

Step 4:
Using any type of elastic string you have (I just had this one), tie it firmly to the edge of a pin and then thread it through the entire edge of the cover.

That's it! Look how wonderfully it blends in with my couch...

And I made another one to switch with when I wash them.

Ah. Much better...

Every TV show from Biggest Loser to Master Chef is about competition, elimination and working hard toward the goal. Jesus also says “So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matt 5:48), so it makes sense to carry a steel motivation into our interior lives. However, what happens when we don’t succeed? When we aren’t the best, but instead the worst, the laziest, the runts of the litter? The real biggest losers?

Dora the explorer

I love how babies are so incredibly curious and want to touch everything. Mine loves trees and nature (I wonder if all babies do?). I love having my own Dora the Explorer to go on walks with.

Baby at mass

After months of obsessing over whether or not our baby would sleep or not during mass (she should be sleeping! It's her scheduled nap!), I finally relaxed about schedules and we finally figured out what works best for her mass experience. It took five months. We put her stroller at a place where she can kind of see the altar and the reader and behind the choir. She likes to watch. She hangs out there looking super cute until about the homily. Then we take her out and try to entertain her. We've been going to the earliest mass at our parish, where there are fewer people. It has made mass a lot less stressful and a lot more joyful!

Motherhood and Money

I know, I know... how could I even put those two words together in the same sentence? They're incomparable. Yet they seem to conflict and their conflict is plaguing my life right now.

Everyone says children change your life. Everyone says the best things in life are free. For me having a child has changed my life professionally. I can't work the same job now and I'm not sure what to do! It has changed my reflection on priorities: this reflection has become more urgent and everyday I wonder what's really important in life. Motherhood is really important, and it's free! But paying the bills, what kind of couple you want to be and how to share responsibilities is important too. For Catholics, there is no easy answer to this question, as each woman has to discern her vocation individually and everyone is different! Being Catholic comes with a lot of freedom... and also a lot of discernment and responsibility.
